Complete Idiots Guide to #FollowFriday #FF

If you’re a Twitter user, whether an avid tweeter or not, you at one point in your Twitter career have seen someone post #FF followed by a bunch of Twitter handles. Hey that looks like fun! I’m going to spam all my followers to follow the spammers that I follow, so we can all spam you every single Friday!! Yayyyy!

C’mon seriously. Who started this #FollowFriday thing? And why has it become an all out spamfest on Friday’s? I have one question…

Where’s the value?

You’re blasting my Twitter feed all day, every single Friday. One after another, “#FF Follow these peeps, they’re the best! @spammer @twitteridiot @iamafool” I see these messages all day. Do you really think I’m going to see your tweet and follow every single one of those people? First, I hardly know who you are; and second, I could care even less about these idiots you’re telling me to follow.

Provide some value, tell me “You should follow @actuallyhasgoodideas for funny behind the scenes content” or “#FF @socialmedianinja awesome insight about knowing nothing about social media and having a stupid title”.

Lastly, please don’t RT other peoples #FF… you’re making it worse. Not only do I have to see the moronic ravings of @socialmedianinja but now I have to see @socialmediawizard RT it??

How about you Tweet this: #STOPFOLLOWFRIDAY
